The painting depicts a Lancaster I, serial R5868, of 467 (RAAF) Squadron. Initially flying with 83 Squadron of the Pathfinder Force this aircraft completed 137 operations and survived the war. The aircraft is now on display at the Royal Air Force Museum, Hendon.
