EXTRACT FROM COMBAT REPORT

Date: 18.9.40

Time of Attack: 12.40

'After having carried out beam attack on about 15 Do 215s, at 18000ft the bombers turned south and I climbed up behind them. I suddenly found myself among several Me 109s, which I had mistaken for Hurricanes. I got close to one and attacked from behind, slightly to starboard allowing for deflection. The 'E' immediately put his nose down and I saw him burst into flames. I did not see him crash as I was myself hit from the rear. However the Me was burning fiercely and must have crashed.'

P.O. Reid, 'B' Flight, 46 Squadron R.A.F.
