Neil Hipkiss AGAvAAviation Artist - Automotive Artist
Exhibitions: Aviation Paintings of the Year Exhibition Years 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2007
My first aviation picture of any importance was produced some time ago for an art exam. A title had to be chosen from a given list and a picture developed to suit. I chose ‘Scene Through a Window’ and produced a picture depicting the view out of a Tornado jet cockpit as it flew down a mountainous valley. A grade ‘A’ was achieved and my affiliation with aviation art began.
I joined The Guild of Aviation Artists in 1997 and have subsequently exhibited many times at their annual ‘Aviation Painting’s of the Year Exhibition’, with my work being chosen to illustrate exhibition catalogues and promotional pamphlets.
My preferred subject matter is anything mechanised such as cars, motorcycles and boats, although my number one passion is aviation, mainly military.
My paintings hang in the collections of the R.A.F. Club, the R.A.F. Museum Cosford and an English Rally Champion as well as numerous private collections.

With my paintings I generally endeavour to produce an overall feeling or theme rather than just an aircraft or car portrait and enjoy painting background details such as houses, churches and countryside as much as the main object of the picture. Apart from my school days I have received no formal art training, instead I opted to study other artist’s work by visiting art galleries and museums until I developed a style of my own. My preferred choice of medium is oils on stretched canvas and I rarely use anything else. For me personally there is no substitute for this medium, which gives the same feeling of expression and quality to an original picture.
I am passionate about my art and constantly study the surroundings wherever I go, making a mental note of what may make a good theme for a new painting. I am still humbled when someone buys one of my pictures or commissions a painting, as it is a great feeling as an artist to know that people wish to collect my work.
I hope you enjoy my paintings as much as I enjoy producing them.
